Autumn Wedding Inspiration

Autumn Wedding Inspiration

Although we have been basking in some late Summer sunshine over the last few days, today officially marks the first day of Autumn and the signs are already there of the change of season, with a fresher feel in the early morning and the sun setting that much earlier in the evening.  It seems a perfect time to look at how this beautiful season can influence the design and theme at your wedding.

The landscape changes dramatically within just a few weeks at this time of year, with the greens giving way to a vibrant kaleidoscope of golds, reds and beautiful shades of brown.  It is no surprise therefore that wedding couples turn to nature for inspiration for their wedding centrepieces and decor, or even their stationery.

Gorgeous pumpkins and squashes provide an array of colour, or why not add berries such as rosehips to your floral display?  Twigs, seed heads and grasses can add texture and interest, while foliage adds contrast.  Rustic log slices or fishbowls filled with earthy tones from Autumn leaves, chestnuts or acorns complement the theme seamlessly.

Whether you opt for the striking jewel tones of an orange Gerbera or purple Cala Lily, or select a more muted palette of peach, warm browns and soft creams, you can be just as spoilt for choice in this season as in Spring or Summer.

When considering your romantic wedding photography, you will be pleased to know that the atmospheric, soft, warm light of Autumn lends itself to flattering portrait photos.  You may well be blessed with the odd warm day even into late October or a bright crisp November afternoon, but also have the knowledge that chilly evenings mean we can light a warming fire in the stunning fireplace of the Long Gallery.

The options for seasonal fayre in Autumn are endless, and so your wedding breakfast menu could incorporate comforting, tender slow cooked meats with a buttery mash, seasonal root vegetables and delicious apple and blackberry crumbles with custard.  Bite sized hot canapes served during the drinks reception are always popular; a firm favourite provided by our caterer Bouquet Garni is a small-scale Yorkshire pudding filled with succulent beef and horseradish sauce.  Or maybe you would prefer a miniature roasted new potato topped with sour cream and chives.

Take a look at our selection of photos from previous Autumn weddings to see how beautiful the gardens look at this time of year and how other wedding couples dressed the Long Gallery.  Further inspiration can be found on our Pinterest boards.
