Wedding Ceremony In Essex

Our Wedding Ceremony in Essex

Did you know that Layer Marney Tower offer the option of a wedding ceremony only?

At our beautiful Essex wedding venue, we have always been happy to welcome wedding couples who simply wish to hold their wedding ceremony in one of our three licensed ceremony rooms.

You may wonder why wedding couples would choose to have two locations for their wedding day, if it can all feasibly happen under one roof.  Maybe you want to keep the ceremony more intimate, with just your closest family and friends and then celebrate with an extended party in the evening.  This would certainly make it more financially viable, as it is easier to keep to a modest number for the day.

Another reason we find is that couples want a beautiful backdrop for their ceremony followed by romantic wedding photography in the garden, before maybe returning to a family home where a marquee is put up in the garden.  Or maybe they are going onto their favourite restaurant, or just crave variety and desire a complete change in style from the ceremony to the reception venue.

We are lucky enough to be able to offer you the choice between three different rooms for your wedding ceremony, each one with it’s own charm.  For an intimate wedding of less than 18 guests, you may use the Hall of the House.  Located at the foot of the tallest Tudor gatehouse in the country, this room has beautiful Tudor panelling and offers direct access to the lovely upper garden area.

The most popular room for a wedding ceremony is the Corsellis Room, which can seat up to 120 people.  With exquisite Mulberry hangings, a stunning high pincer beamed roof and polished oak floor, there is plenty of character without the need for additional wedding decor.  If however you wish to provide wedding flowers or decor, you may do so.

The adjacent Tuke’s Chamber, often used for guests to gather and socialise before a ceremony starts, can also be transformed into a ceremony room for approximately 40 guests.

Following your wedding ceremony, your wedding party can make their way into the beautiful gardens that provide plenty of opportunities for your wedding photography.  The york stone steps leading up to the Tower lend themselves perfectly not only to photos of the wedding couple but also large group shots of the entire wedding party, with the dramatic backdrop of the Tower in the background, or views to the Blackwater Estuary in the opposite direction.  Explore the gardens further to discover the boardwalk around the pond, or the medieval barn with an intriguing mix of animals and vintage machinery.

When you book a wedding ceremony only, the booking is for one hour which allows time for the ceremony itself – usually 20 to 25 minutes and the remainder of the time for photos in the garden.  Your wedding party will also have access to the venue for an hour before the ceremony is due to start.

Ceremonies may take place at any time from 10am to 1pm; a ceremony may only be held after 1pm if it booked with a reception.

The fee for a wedding ceremony in 2020 and 2021 is £750, whatever day of the week or time of the year it is held.  It is then your responsibility to contact the Essex Registration Service to discuss the legal requirements and make arrangements for a registrar to conduct your ceremony.  Payment for their services will be made directly to them.

If you do not require a legally binding ceremony, a celebrant can also provide a ceremony to confirm your commitment to each other.  It is entirely your choice.

Our previous bride Laura, who features in some of these photos commented: “Our wedding ceremony at Layer Marney Tower was absolutely perfect; Karen & the team were so professional, friendly & helpful and did everything to make it the best day ever for us! Layer Marney Tower is just the most beautiful venue, the grounds are stunning and an idyllic location, we wish we could relive it all over again!”

Laura may be able to help our brides in the future too, as she is a make up artist specialising in weddings and special occasions.  Please take a look at her Instagram account Laura Amy makeup.

To fully explore the options available to you, we strongly recommend a visit to Layer Marney Tower – we would be delighted to show you round this beautiful Essex wedding venue and chat with you in further detail.
