Church Weddings

The historic Layer Marney Church, which is even older than the house, sits peacefully within the grounds of Layer Marney Tower, offering couples the opportunity for a traditional church wedding without leaving the estate.

St. Mary the Virgin

Welcoming and atmospheric, the church provides a spiritual setting for your ceremony, before moving seamlessly into your celebrations elsewhere in the grounds.

What Our Couples Say

  • We were married in St Mary the Virgin Church and held our reception in the Barn. Wonderful venue and incredible staff. Everyone was so caring and thoughtful during the run up to the wedding and on the day itself. Nothing was too much trouble. We could not have made a better choice. Thank you!

  • The perfect venue for our perfect day. After looking at more than ten venues we realised straight away when walking into LMT that it was the place for us. The place looked magical and I think of our special day every day. If I could do it all again I would. Karen (the Wedding Manager) was always easily contactable, very responsive and really made us feel welcomed. It’s a family run business as well which adds another nice feel to the place.

The Church Location

Layer Marney Church, formally known as the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, is located within the small village of Layer Marney in Essex, close to the grounds of the historic Layer Marney Tower. Positioned on slightly elevated ground overlooking the surrounding countryside, the church sits just east of the Tower, accessible by a short walk along the estate’s lane. Its rural setting, framed by farmland and mature trees, gives the church a peaceful, secluded atmosphere while still being only a few miles south of Colchester. This proximity to both the village and the Tower makes it an integral part of the local historic landscape.
