Max and Roisin’s July Wedding

It has been wonderful to host so many weddings over the Summer, including many that were postponed from 2020.  On every occasion it feels like there is even more reason for a celebration!

In July, Max and Roisin were finally able to hold their wedding reception here, following a local church wedding ceremony.  Here we are chatting with the newly-weds regarding the wedding day itself but also about the planning and run-up to the big day.

When did the proposal take place and how did it happen?

It was New Year’s Eve 2018, in our new house.

Did you have an ideal venue in mind before you began your search?  How did you research your venue?

We did not; we googled local wedding venues and visited each one until we got to Layer Marney!

How many venues did you visit and why did you choose Layer Marney Tower?

It was probably four or five.  We chose Layer Marney Tower due to it being a stunning building with a huge amount of space.  Furthermore, the price for hire was actually better value than other much smaller venues we had visited, which was an unexpected bonus.

How far in advance did you book your wedding day?

Initially it was a year in advance of the date but then due to the Covid pandemic, our wedding date was pushed back a full extra year from July 2020 to July 2021.

Did you have any specific theme?

We worked with the florist W Flowers to incorporate our preference of a green and white colour scheme.

How did you choose which suppliers you used?  Did you have help from family and friends?

We researched local Colchester and Essex wedding suppliers and chose those that offered us the best service.  It was the bride and groom that made all of the arrangements.

What were the highlights of your day or particularly memorable moments?

We had bright sunshine all day and the DJ was set up outside on the grass, so our wedding guests literally danced outside into the night!

Do you have any advice for Brides and Grooms just starting their wedding planning?

It can be overwhelming when you initially consider all of the suppliers that you need to contact and planning for the logistics of the day.  We would recommend methodically just going through each supplier or task and ticking it off the list as you go.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask for a bit of help from friends or family, or even the suppliers themselves.  Just talking through a concern or query with someone can make things a lot clearer in your own mind!

Thank you to Roisin and Max for providing us with a little insight into their wedding day.
