Traditional red London Routemaster Bus

Our London Routemaster Bus

We are the very proud owners of a traditional red 1960’s London Routemaster Bus, which is available to hire not only for weddings and events here but also hired externally, for events unconnected with Layer Marney Tower.

Whether you are looking for a fun way to transport your friends and family to a wedding, take delegates to a conference, travel to your school prom or take a society or group on a sightseeing tour of local attractions, our iconic Routemaster Bus is a popular choice for travelling in style.

Guests can be collected from a pre-arranged location and enjoy the journey, with none of the usual worries about planning the route, where to park on arrival or not getting to the destination on time.  Not to mention the obvious advantage that nobody has to take the unwanted role of designated driver if you are attending a celebration of any kind that involves alcohol…

If you are holding your wedding at Layer Marney Tower, the Routemaster Bus will typically collect guests from up to two locations, (usually either a local hotel or private address, assuming the access is suitable), before the journey here.  If you are holding a wedding ceremony at a church elsewhere, the guests will be collected from the arranged locations and taken firstly to the church.  It will then wait at a convenient nearby location, ready for the onward journey to Layer Marney Tower.

It is worth noting that the Routemaster will only reach a very modest speed of 40mph, therefore we recommend pick up points that are within a 20 mile radius of Layer Marney Tower.  The Bus will comfortably seat 68 passengers.

This typical daytime only journey in 2021 and 2022 will be £475, with a deposit of £100 payable upon booking.  The balance is then due two months before the wedding (or event) date.

We then also offer the option of a late night return journey.  The wedding reception here finishes at midnight and therefore the Bus is available to depart at approximately 12.15am, ready to return your guests to two local destinations of your choice.  It is worth noting that late night winter journeys can be a little chilly, so an additional layer of clothing or a cosy blanket may be welcome!  The additional fee for a late night return journey is £200.

Apart from the practicalities of transporting guests, it is always a popular option for a few fun photographs – as seen in the photo gallery here.

For alternative journeys, please contact us for a quotation tailored to your requirements and also for availability.

We can make your occasion an unforgettable one; why not add a little bit of nostalgia to your event with a memorable trip in our much-loved traditional Routemaster Bus.
