The Wedding Trends Shaping 2026

After more than 20 years managing weddings at Layer Marney Tower, I’ve had the privilege of seeing thousands of couples celebrate within our Tudor gatehouse. While I’m not a professional trend analyst, I have noticed clear patterns emerging in what couples are gravitating towards for 2026 and 2027.

From Instagram, Pinterest and wedding sites like Hitched, the same themes keep appearing: weddings that feel meaningful, atmospheric and truly memorable for guests. Many of these trends feel perfectly at home here at our Essex wedding venue.

Bridgerton Inspired Weddings:

One of the clearest trends emerging for 2026 is the growing popularity of heritage venues, driven in part by the continued influence of Bridgerton-inspired weddings.

Couples are drawn to settings that already carry a sense of romance, history and grandeur. Historic architecture and established gardens provide a cinematic, timeless backdrop; ideal for flowing gowns, statement florals and candlelit celebrations.

With it’s sweeping lawns and elegant interiors, Layer Marney Tower offers couples the perfect canvas to channel a Regency-era aesthetic. The gardens invite guests to wander in a picturesque, almost storybook setting, while the interior spaces exude sophistication and charm.

Our Long Gallery in particular, provides an ideal setting for a dramatic entrance, a candlelit reception, or a ceremony that feels truly cinematic, evoking the elegance and refinement of a Bridgerton ballroom.

As Hitched notes, couples are leaning into “romantic, Regency-inspired elegance. Think corsetry, chandeliers and lashings of lace, paired with soft pastel tones.”

This aesthetic feels indulgent yet elegant, and naturally complements a Tudor wedding venue like ours.

Colour and Decor Trends:

When it comes to colour, there is some debate about what will define 2026, but one thing is clear: pastel palettes remain hugely popular.

According to Hitched, “Weddings in 2026 are embracing soft, elegant palettes with a modern twist. Pale blue is emerging as a key colour trend, paired with monochrome accents for a chic, contemporary feel.”

We’re already seeing powder blue, lavender and soft blush pink feature heavily in couples’ Pinterest boards.

At Layer Marney Tower, these shades work beautifully in romantic floral arrangements featuring wisteria, roses and dramatic hydrangeas. Opulent lace table linens and elegant calligraphy place names add an extra layer of refinement, while metallic accents in silver or gold — through candelabras, antique mirrors or cutlery — elevate the overall look.

Immersive and Interactive wedding entertainment

For many couples, one of their top priorities is their guests’ experience.

This can be anything from entertainment in the form of lawn games, to having a live saxophonist for subtle background music during the drinks reception before the full-on club and party vibe as they play alongside the DJ.

Traditional guest books are far less common these days, but audio guest books are growing in popularity. Guests can leave heartfelt voice notes;  funny, emotional or spontaneous, creating a truly personal keepsake that couples can cherish for years to come.

The after party

Following the formality of a ceremony and maybe a 3 course wedding breakfast, the evening reception is the start of the real celebration party and a chance for everyone to let their hair down.

Over the past year, we’ve noticed more brides opting for a second dress. This is often something lighter, shorter or more relaxed, designed for dancing and comfort. It’s a practical choice, but also a fun one, giving brides a chance to express a different side of their style and make a fresh entrance for the party.

Food trucks are still hugely popular and our caterer Bouquet Garni has their fabulous Citroën H Van with its own pizza oven, filling the courtyard with the smell of freshly baked pizza. Or how about a bit of theatre, with fajitas being prepared as you watch on?

FAQs

What makes a Bridgerton-inspired wedding different from a traditional wedding?

Bridgerton-inspired weddings draw on Regency-era elegance, romance and cinematic charm. Think flowing gowns, chandeliers, Long Gallery entrances, pastel colour palettes and sophisticated floral arrangements. Heritage venues with historic architecture and sweeping gardens like ours are perfect for capturing this look and feel.

Are Bridgerton-inspired weddings suitable for small or large guest lists?

Yes! Heritage venues like Layer Marney Tower are versatile and can accommodate intimate gatherings in cosy interiors or larger celebrations across galleries and lawns, all while maintaining an elegant, cinematic feel.

Can we include Regency-era details without it feeling costume-like?

Absolutely. Focus on subtle touches, pastel decor, elegant florals, candelabras, lace details, and classical music rather than full period costumes. These elements create a Bridgerton-inspired atmostphere without feeling theatrical.

Of course, wedding trends come and go, and while it’s always interesting to see what’s currently proving popular, the most important thing is that your wedding reflects you as a couple.

Styling choices, colours and details should never feel dictated by trends, or by us, but inspired by what you love and what feels right for your day.

We simply enjoy seeing how couples make Layer Marney Tower their own and thought it would be a bit of fun to share some of the ideas we’re seeing more of as we look ahead into 2026.
