The wedding ceremony has just finished, congratulations are flowing, glasses are clinking, and the atmosphere is relaxed and celebratory. For many couples getting married at Layer Marney Tower, this part of the day unfolds in our beautiful gardens, with guests taking in the beauty of the surroundings while the wedding photography takes place.

Garden Games for a Relaxed Summer Vibe

Lawn games are a firm favourite here, and it is easy to see why. Set against the backdrop of our historic architecture and sweeping lawns, traditional games create a relaxed country house atmosphere which suits both elegant and informal celebrations.

Popular options have previously included a nine-hole crazy golf course, giant versions of Jenga, Connect 4 and Guess Who?, Quoits, Croquet and Vintage-style fairground stalls.

They are ideal for keeping younger guests entertained during photographs, but also perfect for breaking the ice between guests who may be meeting each other for the first time.

They also make fun candid photos for your wedding gallery.

Live Music Drifting Across the Garden

There is something undeniably special about live music outdoors.

As guests gather with drinks in hand, the sound of an acoustic singer, harpist or saxophonist drifting across the gardens adds warmth and sophistication to the occasion.

We have welcomed a number of musicians, including Adam on Piano, Jonny on Sax and Arioso String Quartet. If you’d prefer a vocalist, we can definitely recommend Joanna Power and Hayley Gold.

If you’re looking for something that sparks conversation instantly, interactive entertainment works beautifully during the drinks reception.

A close-up magician such as Richard Symes or Nick Crown will move between small groups, wowing them with their mind-reading skills and sleight of hand. It encourages laughter and brings guests together in shared awe of what they have witnessed!

Other interactive ideas include live illustrators, such as the wonderful Scribble and Sparkle or how about a caricature artist?

Some couples love to surprise their guests with something completely unexpected, so we are always curious to see anything new and creative come to life!

Over the years, we have seen a full fairground carousel installed in the car park, a pony dressed as a unicorn to add a little magic and a motorcycle and sidecar photo booth for incredible photo opportunities.

These features add real personality and fun, and often become a much talked-about element of the day.
